If you look on Ingrid Michaelson’s artist page, you’ll see that she’s no stranger to ABC. In fact, I think she may be the most heard artist on ABC. I’ve known Ingrid for a few years now and I can honestly say she is one of my favorite people to work with. When we knew “Palm Of Your Hand” was going to be in Grey’s Anatomy we all brain stormed about what we could give fans. What came out of it was an acoustic, unreleased version of the song to give to you for free. You can get the song here. We asked Ingrid about the meaning of “Palm Of Your Hand”, here’s what she had to say:

“Palm Of Your Hand is a song about allowing yourself to be crushed by someone else. In a good way. Just allowing that person to be welcomed into your life in every way. Including ways that maybe they can hurt you. That’s the best way I can describe it.” –Ingrid

Composer Spotlight: Revenge’s iZLER

This has been a hard post to write because there is so many things I could say about iZLER (the composer for REVENGE) and how much I love the show’s music.

I guess to start, I need to explain the TV process for scoring episodes. Most of our episodes, because of time and money restrictions, have to be electronic with minimal instruments. The only show we’ve had here at ABC that had a live orchestra was LOST. So, to have another show with music that warrants us bringing in a full orchestra is a very special situation. A few weeks ago, all of our musical stars aligned and we were able to have a rare, intimate look inside workings of the music for REVENGE. We were going to be recording the orchestra for episode 7 and Madeleine Stowe was going to come by and listen in. Madeleine is a classically trained musician with a great love for music. So, I took my little hand held camera and sat down with her and iZLER and got them talking about the music for the show. You can see that footage here (Composer Spotlight).

We’ve been offering free downloads every week of songs featured in REVENGE, but this week we wanted to give you something exclusively from the show. iZLER has been working on a REVENGE music suite for you to download for free. Ravenna Woods “Local Haunts”

People always ask me “What do you do for your job” and my usual answer is “Well, I listen to music all day”. It was one of those days of perpetual music listening when I was introduced to Ravenna Woods. A couple of months ago I had the radio going on my computer, half listening, when a song came on that demanded my attention. It was “Graves” by Ravenna Woods and immediately I stopped my work and started researching the band. I got in touch with the band and they graciously sent me over their full albums “Valley Of The Headless Men” and “Demons & Lakes”, which was on a Friday. I listened to the albums all weekend and come Monday I was completely in love with their sound (I would go into all the reasons why, but I’ll let you experience the goodness for yourself without me using big musical terms to convince you). Over the next few weeks, I became the official ABC advocate for Ravenna Woods, which led to me getting the green light for them to write a song specifically for our shows. I asked them if they were down to write a little tune for us over here at ABC and they said… YES! This was in September I believe, right before our new shows started. To give them a feel for the ABC vibe, I sent them over the first episode of REVENGE and immediately they went to work.

The result, I’m very happy to say, is the track “Local Haunts”, which will be heard in an episode of one of our shows very, very soon (sorry wish I could give you more info, but it’s not ready yet!). BUT, for the next week, you can get the exclusive track as a free download when you vote for the AMA/Sprint New Artist Of The Year. Then after this week, you won’t be able to get the song again until the episode airs later this year.

AMA/Sprint New Artist of the Year Free Download

When we were brainstorming about what we wanted to offer voters as a gift for voting, it was very obvious to all of us what we wanted to do. Lately, we here at ABC have been having songs written specifically for our shows. In a sense, they are our own “breakthrough artists” that we fully believe in. The songs that we are giving you have only been heard by the artist, the shows and us here at ABC. They aren’t available anywhere else. Eventually, you will be hearing all of them in your favorite ABC shows, but until then, we thought we’d let you in on the process with you. For this week, we’re giving you “Not What You Were Thinking” by Amy Stroup featuring iZLER. The song was written specifically for our show Revenge.

Here’s a note from REVENGE’s music supervisor Season Kent about the whole thing came about.

“We all loved our score theme for Emily, and also loved the idea of giving her character a voice through interesting haunting vocals. Our composer, iZLER, was instantly onboard with the idea of using his theme to write an original song. We were on the hunt for an unsigned artist with amazing songwriting skills, and Amy was at the top of the list. She came to ABC and put on an amazing showcase for myself, iZLER and the ABC music team. After iZLER and Amy met, we all knew it was a great fit. They worked together at iZLER’s studio and back and forth in LA to Amy’s studio in Nashville. We are all so happy about the collaboration – and hope to do more of it!” –Season Kent

Free Music from ABC's Revenge

I have to admit, Wednesday is swiftly becoming my favorite day of the week. One, because Revenge is on. Two, we get to give you the stellar music on the show for free!! Tonight’s episode containes one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite albums of the year- “Wilderness” by Middle Brother.

Middle Brother is the talent trifecta of Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes, Matt Vasquez of Delta Spirit and John McCauley of Deer Tick. I had the privilege to see them at The Echo in Los Angeles earlier this year. Their cumulative talent, at times, caused me to stand there mouth agape. Middle Brother was also our “Artist of the Week” back in April, so for me, it’s a rewarding full circle moment to be able to give you a song used in a show that I love. Hands down, this is my favorite part of the job.

World Premiere of Scars on 45's "Heart On Fire" video

Today ABC Music Lounge presents the world premiere of Scars on 45's new video for their song exclusively featured on the upcoming Grey's Anatomy soundtrack Vol. 4. The video was directed by Jordan Bahat and the song is featured in the ABC promos for the new season of Grey's Anatomy. The Fray and Snow Patrol saw great success after being featured in previous season premiere promos for Grey's Anatomy and their is great anticipation that this band will see similar success. Cee Lo Green, Lykke Li, The National, and Delta Spirit are among the acts featured on the soundtrack that Chop Shop/Atlantic will release on September 13th.

Scars on 45:
Making music was the furthest thing from Scars on 45 frontman/songwriter Danny Bemrose's mind until the professional soccer player for England's Huddersfield Town F.C. broke his foot at 21 and his world came crashing down. "I was in limbo, without knowing what to do with myself," he says. It wasn't the first time that fate would intervene in the band's formation.

Danny put down the soccer ball and picked up for his father's guitar. "I'm quite an obsessive person. I became kind of addicted," he says. "I used to lock myself away to write songs and record on four-track recorder."

Those early "recordings" eventually led to the creation of Scars on 45, a quintet from Bradford, England, that combines the gentle melodic intensity of Snow Patrol or Keane with the added allure of co-ed vocals, provided by Danny and fellow lead vocalist Aimee Driver. The self-produced "GIVE ME SOMETHING" EP is Scars on 45's first proper release and serves as an introduction to the band in advance of their forthcoming full length.

Grey's Anatomy Season 7 Soundtrack / Song Download

ABC Studios and Chop Shop/Atlantic Records announce the upcoming release of “Grey’s Anatomy Original Soundtrack Volume 4”. The album – the first new collection of music from and inspired by the hit ABC series in four years – arrives in stores and all demand-side platforms on September 13. That same day will also see “Grey’s Anatomy: The Complete Seventh Season” released on DVD and Blu-ray, with the highly-anticipated eighth season of “Grey’s Anatomy” premiering on ABC on September 22 at 9|8c.
