Over here at ABC we are in the midst of pilot season, which means back to back meetings, 13 hour days, sleeping with your phone beside you and the endless reading of scripts. But even with all the craziness going on, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to say a little something about Sharon Van Etten’s new album “Tramp”, which comes out today. I asked one of my friend’s a while back what albums she was excited to put out this year. Her response was “I’m excited about Sharon Van Etten, do you like her?”… Psch, like her, I LOVE her. She sent me the album the next day and I swear I haven’t stopped listening to it since. I’m pretty sure even the guy in the office next door to me knows all the words now. I remember the first time I put it in to play, the first song up was “Give Out”, immediately I knew it was going to be a song that would make it on my “Best of 2012” list. I know I’m not the only one, trust me when I say you will be hearing Ms. Van Etten on a few of our shows coming up. Until then, get your own copy "Tramp" now. Enjoy! The Black Keys - El Camino Release

Happy December to us all!!! There are few bands that I outwardly show my support for (for me, it’s like telling one kid they’re better than the other). So when I tell you I have a Black Keys poster in my office and in my house, wear their shirt to the gym and flew to San Francisco to watch them play live, you kind of get the idea of my love for them.

Their label came in to play songs off of El Camino a few months ago before some of the songs were even named and I was literally falling out of my seat (I’m an aggressive air guitar player). The song I fell in love with instantly was “Little Black Submarines” and instantly I knew then it was going on my best albums of 2011.

So as I’m getting ready to fly to Ohio for the holidays, I’m excited to announce my favorite band from Ohio, The Black Keys, are releasing El Camino today. Go get it for every one you know, I’m 95% sure it will make them love you more.

New Release from Florence + The Machine

Happy release day!! Without even a hint of over exaggerating, I have been waiting for a painful amount of time to be able to share Florence + The Machine’s new album “Ceremonials” with you.

There are certain songs in life, where after you hear them, they have the power to change your perspective on life or have the ability to articulate something deep inside you that you aren’t able to put into words. A while ago, I received “Shake It Out” off the new Ceremonials album. At first listen, I knew that this was a song that would be a life altering, heart speaking song for me. Since then I’ve listened to the song over and over and OVER again, always singing it at the top of my lungs (dah, LUNGS was Florence + The Machine’s last album!). Even though the year isn’t over yet, I can safely say this song is going on my list as #1 for the year.

I’m happy to say “CEREMONIALS” is out today. I’m excited to experience the album with all of you. And as a favor to me, no matter what is going on with you right now, listen to “Shake It Out” and do just that. You can hear it today on Music Lounge radio.

Mutemath “ODD SOUL” exclusive stream

Even though the third full album from Mutemath “ODD SOUL” won’t be out until next Tuesday, we thought it would be nice to have an exclusive listen today on the ABC Music Lounge! SWITCHFOOT - "Vice Verses" is the eighth studio album by American alternative rock band Switchfoot.

The thematic core of the record rests in the idea of the polarity of life rooted in the lyric "every blessing comes with a set of curses," found on the title track. The band claims that the songs on the album will be driven heavily by drums and bass. Unlike the Hello Hurricane sessions, in which the band tracked over 80 songs, the Vice Verses session saw the band taking on a more selective process. Instead of writing multiple songs and picking from amongst them the best for the album, they wrote just enough songs for one album and focused them so as to perfect each one.

THE KOOKS - It's been three years since the last full album release from this English band. The band first announced in April of 2009 that they were working on this third studio album by barricading themselves in the English countryside. Little was heard from them until January 2011 when Luke Pritchard announced that the band had recorded fourteen new tracks. Their first single "Is It Me" was released on September 4, 2011. World Premiere of Scars on 45's "Heart On Fire" video

Today ABC Music Lounge presents the world premiere of Scars on 45's new video for their song exclusively featured on the upcoming Grey's Anatomy soundtrack Vol. 4. You can be the first to see the video now and get a behind the scenes look at the making of the video along with a peek at the new season of Grey's Anatomy. Just click watch video above.

The video was directed by Jordan Bahat and the song is featured in the ABC promos for the new season of Grey's Anatomy. The Fray and Snow Patrol saw great success after being featured in previous season premiere promos for Grey's Anatomy and their is great anticipation that this band will see similar success. Cee Lo Green, Lykke Li, The National, and Delta Spirit are among the acts featured on the soundtrack that Chop Shop/Atlantic will release on September 13th.

Scars on 45:
Making music was the furthest thing from Scars on 45 frontman/songwriter Danny Bemrose's mind until the professional soccer player for England's Huddersfield Town F.C. broke his foot at 21 and his world came crashing down. "I was in limbo, without knowing what to do with myself," he says. It wasn't the first time that fate would intervene in the band's formation.

Danny put down the soccer ball and picked up for his father's guitar. "I'm quite an obsessive person. I became kind of addicted," he says. "I used to lock myself away to write songs and record on four-track recorder."

Those early "recordings" eventually led to the creation of Scars on 45, a quintet from Bradford, England, that combines the gentle melodic intensity of Snow Patrol or Keane with the added allure of co-ed vocals, provided by Danny and fellow lead vocalist Aimee Driver. The self-produced "GIVE ME SOMETHING" EP is Scars on 45's first proper release and serves as an introduction to the band in advance of their forthcoming full length.

Grey's Anatomy Season 7 Soundtrack / Song Download

ABC Studios and Chop Shop/Atlantic Records announce the upcoming release of “Grey’s Anatomy Original Soundtrack Volume 4”. The album – the first new collection of music from and inspired by the hit ABC series in four years – arrives in stores and all demand-side platforms on September 13. That same day will also see “Grey’s Anatomy: The Complete Seventh Season” released on DVD and Blu-ray, with the highly-anticipated eighth season of “Grey’s Anatomy” premiering on ABC on September 22 at 9|8c.

“Grey’s Anatomy Original Soundtrack Volume 4” features songs from an acclaimed array of artists, including Cee Lo Green, Lykke Li, Peter Bjorn and John, The National, The Boxer Rebellion, Delta Spirit, and Chop Shop/Atlantic’s own The Republic Tigers (see complete tracklist below). The album also includes the new, exclusive track “Heart On Fire” by British band Scars on 45. The song is currently featured in ABC’s promotional campaign leading to the September 22 premiere. People always ask me how we discover music for our shows. It happens in several ways, but my favorite way is when someone, unknowingly at the time, tells me about an album that ends up being one of my favorites for the year.

A few months ago, I was having lunch with a friend and she asked if I had heard the new album “One Thousand Pictures” by Pete & The Pirates. I hadn’t so when I got back to my office I listened to it and immediately fell in love. My exact words back to her were “If this album were a man, I’d totally marry it”.

My enthusiasm for the album spilled over into telling all my friends who are music supervisors, which started an email frenzy of what our favorite songs were on the album. Mine personally is “Shotgun” (I always have to listen to it two or three times when it comes on). With fall season coming up, I’m guessing you will be hearing a Pete & The Pirate song on one of our shows very, very soon.

There isn’t a US tour scheduled as of now, but as soon as there is we’ll let you know. Until then happily listening to “One Thousand Pictures”.

Hey Everyone,

We’re writing you this letter for a few reasons. First, we want to thank you for your patience as we’ve been working on our new album for quite a long time. Since we started off selling tapes in high school we’ve had an audience that felt a lot like family, so we thought we’d fill you in on what’s been going on with us. I think once you know our story you will understand where these songs came from and what this album truly means to us.

When we began work on it we thought we knew exactly what we wanted to say, how we wanted it to sound, and how long it would take us to get it done. We spent a week at each of our respective home cities arranging songs all day and plotting the album’s story and sound at night. Album titles got thrown around, interlude ideas were talked through, and we looked to fill in parts of the story we thought were missing. We thought we had all the makings of a great record and could have it out by summer. Last summer. But, we also promised each other that no matter what, we would not settle. We wouldn’t finish the album until the story was told. Period. We wanted to, for the first time, take it easy.

So for the next few months we went from weeks in Chicago, Virginia and Columbus to recording songs live off the deck at Avatar in New York City, out to LA to cut vocals and overdubs, then back to Columbus for the horn section. It sounds like a lot of locations, but it seemed completely appropriate and the songs went along for the ride. But as we closed in on finishing the album we realized we hadn’t told the entire story. We had more living to do and more songs to write. So we went off on tour that summer, planned on finishing the album along the way, with no idea that the next year of our lives would be one giant test.

We parted ways with Atlantic Records. While we had great success there and we all remain friends, we got to a point where it didn’t feel like their system and our system were going to continue to fit together in this ever-changing music business. And we are thankful for all we accomplished there. Yet even without a label, we kept working on the songs and trying to put together the album we’d dreamed about. As the summer came to an end we felt real close to being finished but we still didn’t have what we were all looking for. So we continued to write, got to planning a fall tour, and really just looked forward to time off.

Then everything changed.

In late September my wife was diagnosed with cancer and a tumor had to be removed immediately. Suddenly life became a lot more real, turned us inside out, and focused everything on the family. I think we seldom understand what we have until it is nearly taken from us.

Our band is a family too, so when one of us is down, we are all down. Music could wait. I can’t imagine it was easy on anyone, but it was time to be there for one of our own. I have never in my life seen someone jump into a tough fight with such courage. I’ll always admire her for that, and so much more. She is doing very well now, I think because she decided it was just going to be that way.

I finally understood what this life and this album was really about. At some point we have to realize all we have is right here and we can either own it or let it own us.

As 2011 moved along things got better every day. And as the world started to make sense again, we decided as a band that it was time to brush ourselves off and finish the album. We revisited some of the very first songs written for the project. “Back To One,” “Gotta Be Wrong Sometimes,” and “Taking on the World Today.” They all made a lot more sense now.

But it wasn’t until we wrote the very last song that the entire picture snapped into place. It’s always funny how that happens. We knew we had one more spot to fill and it needed to be the one that summed up everything we’d been through. I remember the first time I heard the beat for “Heaven.” It immediately spoke to me and the song came together quickly. It reminded me of all that confidence and hope we had in the very beginning of making this record, positive energy jumped off the track. We finished “Heaven” and the album was done.

Then we signed a deal with Wind-up Records. I’m glad we spent the extra time finding the perfect home for our band. Wind-up has all the things we want from the major label system along with that burning independent spirit we based our entire career on. It’s a place where we can do what we do and have an entire staff of people focused on helping us do it better.

And in the end, the hardest year of our lives delivered us every song that was missing from the record and our story. So, thanks for listening to our music and coming to our shows. We are so proud to have made this album for so many reasons. We hope you enjoy it.

We call the album King.
